Brain Scan explained to a six year old.

** is having a city scan on his head. What is it, an  injection?
(injections are  merciless  medical procedures  according to the gentleman)

CT Scan.  Doctors take photos of the  inside of the body  using special lights called x-rays…
I know X-ray, it  takes picture of bones.

Yes, but CT Scan is slightly different. Can you bring your skeleton model?
OK.

Now, this is the skull. If you take x-ray photo of  the  head, you get a picture of the skull, since  X-ray is err.. like you said,  see  through photo. You cannot get a good picture of the brain inside the skull using x-rays because skull is made of  hard bones.

OK.
CT Scanners use x-rays to take several pictures, then do mathematical calculations and create a  good picture  of the brain.

Addition or subtraction?
Much more complicated mathematics called  calculus, you will learn it when you are  go to  high school.

My school is not  big enough to teach that?
I mean when you are in higher classes.

Fine.
Now you know what CT Scan  is?

Yes- photos and mathematics.
Well, photos created  using x-rays and mathematics,  for doctors to check if  something inside is OK or not.  We will go  to Youtube and watch the  video of a CT Scan. This is the patient, in he goes into  the machine  that will  take x-ray images and the  lady who is  operating the machine is called…

Maths teacher!

Er.. well, the maths bit of it was done by a  great  maths teacher called Penrose and  it is all  in the computer now.  The  person who is doing the scan is called Radiologist.  Radiologist will do the same procedure  for * also.

Wow, only she knows how to do this!
Only who?

This   Radio… what's her name again?
Radiologist is the name of the job, not this lady’s name!!!
